ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is a celebration of life and our journey through it, a testimony to its splendor. I try to document my personal wonderment of conception. I am influenced by ancient religions, fertility Goddesses, obelisks, and symbolism that is largely left unspoken. The writing of Lewis Thomas on “THE CELL” have been a wellspring of inspiration as well as a template for designing. When Thomas wrote “How amazing it is to have been conceived from one single cell”, it was a bit of an epiphany and I related it to the fertility cults of the ancient world. Artemis, Isis, Diana and Mother nature are who I am thinking about while forging and forming metal. My creative goal is to make pieces that look fluid and natural, living forms reminiscent of pods, DNA helix’s, things in bloom or gestation.

When I have gone to decay in the continual rotation of the earth, the work of my mind body and spirit will remain as a testimony of how amazing it was to have been here in the first place.
